Dr. Noel Hacegaba Poised To Become Next CEO Of The Port Of Long Beach

The Port of Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has announced that it will consider appointing Dr. Noel Hacegaba as the Port’s next Chief Executive Officer during its December 8, 2025 meeting. Currently serving as Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Hacegaba is set to succeed Mario Cordero on January 1, 2026. His appointment comes at a pivotal time as the Port continues to expand its infrastructure, embrace digital innovation, and accelerate zero-emission initiatives.

A Proven Leader with Deep Port Experience

For more than 15 years, Dr. Hacegaba has held senior leadership roles at the Port, demonstrating a strong command of commercial operations, engineering, finance, planning, environmental initiatives, and administrative functions. As Chief Operating Officer, he oversaw daily operations and led major efforts such as the Port’s pandemic-era Business Recovery Task Force and the creation of the Supply Chain Information Highway, a digital platform designed to enhance cargo visibility nationwide.

He has played a key role in several major business transactions, including the multibillion-dollar sales of Long Beach Container Terminal and Total Terminals International. His experience navigating historic industry realignments and ensuring cargo recovery following major global disruptions positions him as a strategic and steady leader for the future.

Guiding the Port Into a Decade of Transformation

City and Port leaders expressed strong support for Dr. Hacegaba, noting his expertise and collaborative leadership style. Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson highlighted the significance of the coming decade marked by climate action, digital transformation, and major infrastructure investments and emphasized that Dr. Hacegaba is well-equipped to guide the Port through this transformative period.

Beyond his Port responsibilities, Dr. Hacegaba has also led the Intermodal Container Transfer Facility Joint Powers Authority and served in leadership roles across industry associations, contributing to national freight policy discussions. A scholar-practitioner, he holds degrees in economics, business, planning, and a doctorate in public administration. His achievements earned him the prestigious Stanley T. Olafson Award in 2025 for advancing international trade.
