BEML announced a major development for India’s maritime sector on 5 December 2025. The company signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering and HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries. The agreement took place in Bengaluru under the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
A Joint Effort to Strengthen India’s Maritime Infrastructure
The three organisations will work together to design and manufacture a new generation of port and maritime cranes. They will also integrate, install and commission these systems in India. Additionally, the collaboration covers autonomous cranes, aftersales support, spares and technical training.
The partnership supports India’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. It aims to help the country expand its port capacity and move toward greater self-reliance in advanced maritime equipment. Furthermore, the agreement reduces the need for imported port cranes and encourages the growth of domestic manufacturing.
Combining Global Expertise with Indian Industrial Capability
BEML brings strong manufacturing capacity and engineering experience to the partnership. Meanwhile, KSOE contributes global leadership in marine engineering and complex shipbuilding systems. HSHI adds deep capability in crane design, development and automation.
Together, the three companies intend to deliver modern and energy-efficient crane systems. These cranes are expected to support port expansion, shipyard automation and improved cargo-handling operations. Additionally, the collaboration will strengthen the private sector and create high-value jobs.
MoU Signed at BEML Headquarters
The MoU was formalised in the presence of senior leaders from all three organisations. The signing ceremony marked the beginning of a long-term collaboration focused on future-ready maritime equipment manufacturing in India.
Supporting India’s Broader Maritime Ambitions
BEML’s Maritime Strategic Business Unit continues to advance the country’s maritime goals. Its work spans shipbuilding support systems, port modernisation equipment, dredging and specialised marine engineering solutions. The company’s nationwide footprint and decades of experience help reinforce India’s industrial ecosystem.
KSOE and HSHI contribute complementary strengths. KSOE supports the initiative with extensive knowledge in commercial and naval marine systems. HSHI adds proven expertise in industrial cranes and heavy equipment used at major global ports and shipyards. Consequently, the combined effort aligns with India’s long-term maritime plans for 2047.
