  • The deal strengthens SSY’s push to become a Top-3 global shipbroker
  • Grieg Shipbrokers’ management team will continue under SSY ownership.

SSY, the world’s largest independent shipbroker, has announced that it has agreed terms to acquire Grieg Shipbrokers, a leading Scandinavian brokerage. The acquisition will take effect from January 2026 and will see Grieg Shipbrokers fully integrated into SSY’s global platform.

Grieg Shipbrokers, founded in 1884, operates globally with offices in Oslo, Bergen, and London. The firm has built a strong reputation across multiple segments, including LPG, tankers, dry bulk, offshore, maritime finance, sale & purchase, and aquaculture. Current CEO Morten Müller will continue to lead the business going forward.

Strategic Rationale

The acquisition forms part of SSY’s broader strategy to establish itself as a Top-3 player across all major shipbroking sectors. By adding Grieg Shipbrokers’ regional strength and sector expertise, SSY further deepens its already wide service offering.

SSY’s Managing Partner, Stanko Jekov, said the deal reflects the strong alignment between the two firms, noting their shared history, values, and long-standing commitment to client service.

Grieg Family Perspective

Markus C. Grieg, Chair of the Board of Grieg Shipbrokers, described the firm as a long-standing family business with deep maritime roots. He expressed appreciation for the firm’s employees and confidence in their future under SSY’s ownership.

The parties have agreed not to disclose the transaction value, and it was confirmed that the Grieg brand will not continue, as the business will be fully incorporated into SSY’s infrastructure.
