PIL Joins MACS To Strengthen The Fight Against Ocean Plastic Pollution

21

Pacific International Lines (PIL) has joined the Maritime Association for Clean Seas (MACS) as a founding member, reinforcing its commitment to reducing ocean plastic pollution and operational waste. Through this partnership, PIL aims to deliver measurable environmental improvements while aligning its shipping operations with international sustainability standards.

PIL’s Sustainability Measures Onboard Vessels

Under its Future-Focused commitment, PIL ensures that all vessels comply with MARPOL and relevant local regulations. To reduce plastic use, the company has installed water filtration systems on every ship and provided crew members with reusable stainless-steel water bottles. These initiatives help limit single-use plastics and improve waste management at sea.

Measurable Results and Expansion Plans

PIL’s efforts have already produced tangible results. In 2024, the company reduced plastic waste by 17% and solid waste by 20% compared to 2023. A three-month pilot project collected 0.45 cubic metres of plastic for recycling from two vessels. Encouraged by these outcomes, PIL plans to expand the initiative across its entire fleet.

By joining MACS, PIL is strengthening collaboration within the maritime industry to tackle ocean plastic pollution. With proven results and fleet-wide expansion plans, the partnership highlights how coordinated action and practical onboard measures can contribute to cleaner seas and a more sustainable future for global shipping.
