PIL Ships Record 95-Tonne Substation Unit To Iraq’s Umm Qasr Port

Pacific International Lines (PIL) has successfully transported a 95-tonne substation unit from Jebel Ali, UAE, to Umm Qasr Port in Iraq, marking the heaviest cargo ever handled by the carrier’s Middle East, Horn of Africa and East Africa regional office. The shipment highlights PIL’s growing capabilities in managing complex and oversized project cargo.

Specialised Handling and Precise Coordination

The transportation of the heavy substation unit required specialised lifting equipment and careful coordination at both the loading and discharge terminals. During the discharge process at Umm Qasr, a tandem lift operation was carried out, demanding precise timing and close collaboration between crane operators and terminal staff to ensure safe handling of the cargo.

The shipment was completed on 16 December aboard Kota Rahmat, which operates under PIL’s dedicated Iraq Feeder Service (IQF), ensuring reliable connectivity between regional hubs and Iraqi ports.

Milestone for PIL’s Project Cargo Expertise

According to PIL, the successful delivery represents a major milestone for its regional operations. The company described the shipment as a demonstration of its expanding expertise in handling complex project cargo, particularly in challenging operational environments.

This achievement reinforces PIL’s position as a capable carrier for heavy-lift and specialised cargo movements, supporting infrastructure and energy-related projects across the Middle East and neighbouring regions.

The record-setting shipment to Umm Qasr underscores PIL’s ability to manage demanding logistics operations involving oversized and heavyweight cargo. As regional infrastructure projects continue to grow, such capabilities are expected to play an increasingly important role in supporting trade and development across Iraq and the wider Middle East.
