Fire Contained on Container Vessel at Surabaya Port

A fire occurred on a container vessel while it was berthed at a container terminal in Surabaya on 29 December 2025. Emergency services were alerted in the morning after smoke was seen coming from areas close to the vessel’s fuel and machinery spaces.

Emergency Response and Evacuation

Local fire and rescue teams, along with port firefighting units, were quickly deployed to the scene. Multiple fire engines, rescue teams, and tugboats supported the operation. Authorities confirmed that all 22 crew members were evacuated safely, and no casualties were reported.

Situation Stabilised, Operations Resume

The main fire was brought under control shortly after 09:00 local time, with the situation declared stable later in the morning. Terminal officials confirmed that the fire was fully extinguished and normal port operations resumed soon after. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
