On July 12 at about 6 p.m, a bulk carrier hauling coal product has gone aground in Canadian waters along the St. Lawrence River near Hamilton Islands.
The vessel experienced a “mechanical failure” at about 6 p.m. Tuesday and remains on solid ground. The grounding resulted in no pollution or ingress of water into the ship and no one was injured, reports say.
“It does not present any danger to traffic on the water or for any damage to the ship at this point,” spokesperson reportedly said. The ship, a bulk carrier hauling coal product, was downbound at the time of the incident, heading for a port in New Brunswick.
A salvage plan is being evaluated and one should be ready for implementation. He said there is no timetable yet for the ship to be refloated.
The ship is 225 meters long and 28 meters wide and it was built in 2013.
