On July 10, Milford Haven pilot boat made ‘hard contact’ with one of the world’s largest LNG carrier Lijmiliya during a routine transfer, reports say.  Three pilot boat crew were reportedly injured and got treated in hospital on Sunday.

The vessel was on her way to South Hook LNG-import terminal inside the Port of Milford Haven when the collision occurred.

The Port of Milford Haven has launched an investigation to find out what caused the incident and would comment only in a brief statement.

“The Port of Milford Haven can confirm that in the early hours of Sunday morning, an incident occurred when its pilot vessel, St Davids, made hard contact with LNG carrier Lijmiliya during a routine transfer of pilot operation,” it said.

“The impact was such that it resulted in three of the five Port of Milford Haven crew members on board at the time suffering injuries, which were minor in nature but required hospital attention.  All three are now recovering at home.”

“The pilot vessel sustained significant damage.  However, there was no pollution resulting from the incident and normal shipping operations have resumed.”
