On August 4, the gigantic CMV cruise ship Magellan ploughed into the ferry just off its landing jetty at Tilbury Docks.  It is not yet known if anyone was hurt in the incident and there is no report of any damage to the environment.

After being struck by the 222-metre long cruise ship leaving London Cruise Terminal, the Tilbury to Gravesend ferry service has been suspended.

The ferry usually carries between 10 and 40 foot passengers between Tilbury and Gravesend.

A spokesman for the council said the Tilbury to Gravesend ferry service had to be suspended until “safety checks were completed.”

The spokesman said: “Due to a cruise ship striking the ferry last night, the Tilbury to Gravesend ferry service is temporarily suspended until safety checks are completed and the authorities are happy that the vessel is able to resume usual service.”
