Two Tankers Collide and Leaks Fuel Off Tokyo

On August 7, two Japanese tankers, EASTERN PHOENIX and KEIHIN MARU NO.8, collided at around 0920 Tokyo time off Kehin Port, Kawasaki prefecture, Japan.

The EASTERN PHOENIX reported to have suffered some damage from the incident, whereas the KEIHIN MARU NO.8 was breached on its portside with ensuing water ingress.

Bunker fuel leak suspected from the product tanker Keihin Maru 8, and reports suggest the ship started sinking.  Three crew from the vessel have been safely rescued.

A salvage firm has been deployed and investigators are looking into how the accident happened.
