Germany On Terror Alert – What does it mean to the Maritime World?

2517

Germany warns its citizens to stockpile food and water in case of terror attack.  Germans will have to stock the enough food for ten days and enough water for five days , a newspaper has reported.

The German government is planning to tell citizens to stockpile food and water in their homes in case of a terror attack or catastrophe.

The “Concept for Civil Defence” will require the population to stockpile enough food for ten days, according to Frankfurter Allgemmeine Sonntagszeitung (FAZ) newspaper.

Citizens would also be required to stock enough water for five days.

Measures have been announced this month by the government to invest more on its police and security forces including creating a special unit to fight cyber crime and terrorism.

A spokesman for the Interior Ministry said the plan would be discussed by the cabinet on Wednesday and presented by the minister that afternoon.  He declined to give any details on the content.

Germany is currently on high alert after two Islamist attacks and a shooting rampage in Munich by a mentally unstable teenager in July.

Germany’s Defence Minister said earlier this month the country was in the “crosshairs of terrorism” and called for the military to train closer with police in preparation for potential large-scale militant attacks.

So What does it mean to the maritime world?

We are all aware that SMM – is all set where the event is said to be the world’s leading International maritime trade fair.  The entire maritime industry involving various stakeholders convene at Hamburg – from 6th September to 9th September 2016.

More than 2,100 exhibitors and 50,000 trade visitors, with just 13 days to go while we write this news, it is expected that at least 60,000 people from different parts of the world will walk through the exhibition areas.

We request all those who head to Hamburg to be cautious and probably given the current state of security, it would rather be not a bad idea to store food and water as announced by German government.

On the bright side, the industry morale has not gone down as we can witness that the hotels are getting filled up much faster.

MFAME representatives would be present at the SMM and we are happy to visit you at your booth and have a story about your product/company in MFAME.  The Maritime world is eagerly waiting to watch our updates from the SMM.
