On August 29, due to an accidental fuel tank ejection from a fighter aircraft a minor fire broke out aboard the Indian Naval ship INS Dega”.  No injuries or casualties were reported, however an investigation has been initiated to find out the root cause of the incident.

A minor Fire broke out on runway of INS Dega when a fuel drop tank of a MIG-29K jettisoned accidentally while taking off in Visakhapatnam on Monday.

The incident took place around 10 a.m. when the MIG was taking off on a routine training. Soon after the incident the Navy officials at the Visakhapatnam air base rushed and doused the fire.  There were reports of some damage sustained by the aircraft.

The officials said that on its way back the aircraft’s second fuel tank was dropped to balance the weight of the aircraft during landing.

However, the second empty external fuel tank falls from a flying MiG 29K Navy aircraft at CISF quarters in Visakhapatnam.
