The U.S. Coast Guard medevacked a man Monday who was experiencing severe head pain 238 miles east of St. Augustine.

A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew medevaced the 62-year-old man from the vessel Miss Simona.

Coast Guard 7th District Command Center watchstanders were notified Monday of the vessel’s captain experiencing severe head pain and collapsing.  The vessel changed course to rendezvous with rescue crews.

Watchstanders launched an MH-60 crew and conducted the medevac at approximately 11 p.m.  The man was transferred to EMS personnel at Orlando Executive Airport and transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday.

The Miss Simona is a 590-foot bulk carrier homeported in Italy.

An HC-130 Hercules airplane from Air Station Clearwater assisted with communications and support.
