A bulk carrier has reportedly suffered an engine failure in Kalmar Strait off Oskarshamn, Sweden.  The vessel was en route from Rotterdam to Oskarshamn, but at the approach to the port of destination the main engine unexpectedly broke down and the carrier lost propulsion power.

The crew was able to drop anchor and prevent further problems for the traffic.

The misfortune was reported to local authorities, but no assistance or salvage was requested by the crew.  After a while, the engine power was restarted and the bulk carrier proceeded to its destination.

A safety inspection was carried out.  There were no injuries and no water pollution during the incident.
