New Ship Export Orders Rise in November for Japan

According to the data released by Japan Ship Exporters Association (JSEA), Japanese new ships export orders in November this year have increased by 169.4 percent on tonnage basis compared to October.  The demand had increased from 3 ships in October to 5 ships in November, totaling 336,300 gross tons, consisting of three bulk carriers.  In November last year, Japan’s new ship export orders have totaled 29 ships amounting to 1.09 million gross tons.

In the 11 months, Japanese shipbuilders have received new export orders for a total of 67 ships with an aggregate of 3.23 million gross tons, down 83.8 percent each year.

On the other hand, in November 2016, Japan delivered 18 ships for export totaling 1.03 million gross tons, rising from 15 ships totaling 584, 122 gross tons recorded in October.  In November 2015, Japan’s new ship deliveries for export had totaled 10 ships with 540, 153 gross tons.

Meanwhile, in January-November period of the current year, Japan delivered 270 ships for export, totaling 11.55 million gross tons, rising by 8.7 percent each year.
