The Maersk Line has apparently reported that the rates pertaining to charter market for the medium “wide-body” container ships are the main target in the coming years.

The company has signed a 4-year-chartering agreement with two Hammonia Reederei controlled 4,900 TEU vessels at $ 10,000 daily as the charter rate.

According to analysts, this charter ring could prove to be a prescient move by the Maersk Line.

Alphaliner has conveyed that, “The price of $ 10,000 today is considerably more than the $ 6,500 kind of tonnage that can be chartered for short or medium term contracts, but it may prove to be a good deal for the Danish company whose charter market for these types of ships regains its strength”.

There are, however, far up to instalments of $ 20,000 per day, as the type of ship cost when the price was at its peak.

Analysts note that “It is unclear whether the current level will be seen again in the near future, when the changes in demand decrease, as this market has been through in recent times”.

The two charter ships are designed by Neptun Ship Design in Germany and built by ZheJiang Ouhua Shipbuilding in China.  They belong to the latest generation of fuel efficient and environmentally friendly container vessels, which consumes 25 per cent less fuel per transported TEU.  Both the charter ships were purchased in 2014.
