Nano Protect Service (NPS) says tests completed last month shows its friction reducing process has reduced the fuel consumption of the feedermax box ship MV Jork Ruler‘s auxiliary engines by 9.2 percent.

The vessel is owned by Bernd Becker Shipmanagement GmbH & Co. KG (Becker Shipmanagement) and managed by Jebsen Shipping Partners Management GmbH & Co. KG (Jebsen).

NPS says its efficiency improvement process involves the coating of metal surfaces with friction reducing engines lubricants, which it says can reduce the friction coefficient by as much as 96 percent.

“What makes the system unique is that we apply a mixture of three different nanoparticles which individually reduces the friction in engines,” says NPS.

Alongside the fuel savings, the vessels’ auxiliary engines are also said to have shown an improvement in NOx and CO2 emissions, which were reduced by 30 percent.
