Ian Webb, an engineer on the ship, posted the video online to show the ferocity of the storm.

The amazing footage shows how Storm Doris battered a tug boat sailing on the River Mersey.

The clip shows huge waves crashing over the front of the Millgarth tug as it returned from moving the Stena Lagan ship.

The video was posted alongside the caption: “View from my cabin today. You can just about see the new cranes in the distance”.

Ian, 60 has been working on tugs for 35 years – and says these are some of the worst weather conditions he’s seen.

He said: “I’ve been doing this for 35 years now and this is the first time I’ve seen the port closed in that time because of high winds.”

“I’ve only ever seen it closed tud eo the fog really.”

Storm Doris has hit Merseyside – with winds up to 100mph being reported in parts of the borough – causing a multitude of problems.

Water Street in the city centre has been closed, ferries cancelled and the Port of Liverpool is shut for safety reasons.

In south Liverpool, several large trees have been brought down by the wind, leading to parts of Aigburth Road closing.
