Cargo Ship Ran Aground Off Rostock, Germany

On May 21, general cargo ship Fast Herman ran aground on the Prerow Bank off Rostock, Germany.

What happened?

The vessel was en route from Szczecin to Lubeck with a cargo of Urea, but left the fairway and stuck hardly into the mud shallow.

The crew was not able to refloat the freighter by own means and requested assistance from the local authorities.

Ship towed for inspection:

A tug was called from Rostock, which managed to pull the general cargo ship Fast Herman off the shallow several hours later. The freighter was ordered to dock in Rostock for underwater survey and special inspection.

Investigation underway:

The investigation for the root cause of the grounding is under way.

Fortunately during the accident there were no reported injuries and no water pollution. According to preliminary information, the vessel did not suffered underwater breaches and damages.
