A fuel pipe rupture has lead to a massive oil pollution in the Baltic Sea.
What happened?
On June 16, 2017, a fuel pipe broke under the deck of the “Marmara Mariner” during bunkering operations in the Baltic Sea. Approx. 35 liters heavy fuel leaked overboard.
Environmental ship dispatched to control pollution:
A Danish environmental ship “Gunnar Thorsson”, was in the area and fast on scene.
Bunker heads for repairs:
The bunker tanker headed for Riga to be repaired where it berthed at the PAS Termināls Vecmīlgrāvis on June 18.
Investigation underway:
An investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the oil spill. The scale of pollution has been massive and officials are trying to bring it under control its negative effects.
