Cargo Ship Sinks, 1 Dead 5 Missing

In an unfortunate incident, a cargo vessel reportedly sank on the night of 17 July, 2017 due to strong winds caused by typhoon Talas.

What happened?

The General cargo vessel ‘VTB 26’ containing a consignment of coal and destined for Cua Lo, Nghe An, Gulf of Tonkin, sank during the night.

The ship was battered by high waves and strong wind, brought by typhoon Talas.

Vessel denied berthing:

The Vessel was allegedly denied permission from berthing at Cua Lo, because of oncoming typhoon.

The authorities lost contact with the vessel after midnight after it has issued a distress signal.

1 dead, 5 missing:

Out of 13 crew members on board the vessel, 8 were found alive and picked up by the rescue crew. However, one crew member was recovered dead and 5 were declared missing from the vessel.
