Merchant Ship Collides with UAE Navy Vessel in the Gulf

On July 25, a merchant ship collided with an UAE Navy vessel, when it was reportedly taking part in routine watch in its territorial waters.

What happened?

The United Arab Emirate Navy vessel was on its routine watch in the territorial waters of UAE when the collision occurred. The collision has been confirmed by an official from the armed forces.

Situation assessed:

Fortunately, no one was injured during the collision incident and no pollution to the environment was reported by both sides.

However, both the vessels suffered damages and the damage is currently being assessed by a group of technical experts.

Investigation underway:

An investigation is also currently underway to determine how the merchant ship failed to detect the Navy ship.

No details are available about the merchant ship, the cargo it was carrying or any details on whether shipping routes were affected.

The incident comes close to the heels of USS Fitzgerald collision, when a cargo vessel collided on the Navy ship damaging its communication systems and it also resulted in loss of lives of sailors aboard the Navy ship.
