Triple Accident in Piräus

On August 1, a vessel broke from its moorings subsequently causing a triple accident.

What happened?

The vessel ‘European Express’ caused serious mechanical damage to two ships anchored off a shipyard in Perama, Piraeus port.

Broke from its moorings:

The vessel broke away from its moorings and started drifting towards the starboard side of another vessel ‘Aqua Jewel’.

In turn, the ‘Aqua Jewel’ collided with a tanker which was adjacent to it.

Tugs rein runaway vessel:

The vessel “European Express” was safely taken back to its berth with tug assistance.

Investigation launched:

The port authority launched a preliminary investigation, all involved ships were detained until the submission of Class A certificates of seaworthiness by the relevant classification societies.
