Explosion at Shipyard Claims Four Lives

On August 20, four people unfortunately lost their lives in an explosion that occurred at a shipbuilding yard.

What happened?

The explosion occurred at an STX Offshore & Shipbuilding yard located in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province in South Korea. The explosion occurred on an oil tanker that was under construction at the yard located in Changwon.

4 dead, others injured:

During the time of the incident, workers were carrying out painting operations inside the tanker at the plant. Four people were reportedly killed in the blast and other workers were injured during the explosion. The reason for explosion remains unknown yet.

The 74,000 dwt tanker was being constructed for a Greek shipping company and was earlier scheduled for delivery in October.

Investigation underway:

The local authorities have initiated investigation to determine the reason for the explosion and further report is awaited.
