Tank Containers with Nitric Acid Damaged in Storm

On Sep 14, a container ship DONG FANG FU got caught in rough weather in East China sea, while en route from Shanghai to Taichung port, Taiwan.

The ship carried 6 tank containers with nitric acid that got shifted while getting battered due to severe heavy winds. The container ship later changed course and arrived at Keelung port at night. Next day the crew smelled acid leaks in cargo hold and immediately alerted authorities.

Chemical factory technicians were called, to treat leakage. No injuries were reported due to the leak and the fortunately it didn’t spill overboard, DONG FANG FU sailed from Keelung on Sep 15, bound for Taichung. Understood tank containers are to be offloaded in Taichung, with following thorough clean up.
