Accident During Unloading of Ferry

On September 17, a staff member was reportedly injured during an accident while unloading cargo from the vessel.

What happened?

The 29 year old staff member, suffered injuries to his head, chest and back after he was hit by a freight van. The staff member was trapped underneath the van as it was driving off the cargo vessel ‘Stena Lagan’ in Twelve Quays terminal, Birkenhead. The vehicle was disembarking after arriving on Merseyside on the ferry that operates between Birkenhead and Belfast.

Staff member rescued:

After the accident, the emergency services were notified about the incident and arrived at the accident scene at around 6.45 p.m. with Port of Liverpool Police, Merseyside Police, North West Ambulance Service and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service. The emergency services attended to the injured man and took him to the hospital where he is currently being treated for his injuries.

Investigation launched:

All of the statutory organisations associated with the port have been informed and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident.
