Cargo Ship and Tanker Collided in Azov Sea

On September 19, a cargo ship reportedly collided with a tanker in Azov-Don Sea due to less visibility.

What happened?

The cargo ship ‘Veles’ collided with tanker ‘Volgoneft-210’ in Azov-Don Sea Canal due to restricted visibility.

Pilots of both the vessels were onboard during the collision and the incident occurred in the buoys 20-21 area.

Cargo ship suffers damage:

The cargo vessel loaded with 3003 tons of wheat suffered damages to its bulwark and the cargo deck was bloated. The extent of the damage suffered by the tanker remains unknown.

Both the vessels have been ordered to proceed towards Rostov-on-Don where they will be inspected and sent for further repairs.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collision.
