Captain of Bulk Carrier Found Intoxicated During Inspection

On September 24, during a routine inspection carried out on a bulk carrier the captain of the vessel was found to be under the influence of alcohol during duty hours.

What happened?

The Brunsbüttel water police carried out an inspection on the vessel ‘Grumant’ which was inside the Kiel Canal lock in Brunsbüttel. During the inspection, the police found the captain of the vessel in an intoxicated state.

Fails test:

A breathalyzer test conducted on the Captain showed 0.5 per thousand of alcohol present in his body. He was charged during the investigation and ordered to pay a safety deposit of 800 Euros.

It was already noted that the concerned ship, which was enroute from Terneuzen to Gdansk, had showed deficiencies several times in the past, and it was detained in the inner port of Brunsbüttel in the light of this for a Port State Control.
