On November 1, 2017, a bulk carrier “Nautical Runa” reportedly broke loose from its moorings at the silos of the J. Müller company and ran aground in Brake.
The vessel, with its draught of 12,20 meters, drifted to the Weser fairway and got stuck. The ship was carrying nearly 53.000 tons of food products and started unloading it. Tugs were brought in to stabilize the vessel and a bow anchor drop helped to hold it in position during the outgoing tide.
But for small vessels the ship traffic on the Weser was nearly shut down in Brake.
Late in the evening, along with the rising tide. the tugs “Bugsier 1”, “Bugsier 4”, “V.B. Geeste” and “Alte Weser” were involved in refloating the vessel and towed it to the South Pier.
There were no reports of any injuries or environmental disaster from the incident.
