Partnership will Deliver IoT for Ship Maintenance

Ship maintenance and servicing will be enhanced through a partnership between a global shipbuilding group and an internet of things (IoT) platform builder. Fincantieri Marine Systems has teamed up with Camgian Microsystems Corp to use suites of sensors and a cloud-based IoT software platform.

Together, these companies will increase shipping’s capability to efficiently collect and transmit large volumes of disparate sensor data and use this to generate critical operational insight.

This solution will engage telemetry technology that the North American subsidiary of Fincantieri has developed with the group’s global footprint in maintenance and Camgian’s Egburt IoT platform, analytics and software development capabilities.

Fincantieri Marine Systems North America vice president Rick Dinsmore expects the partnership will improve operational efficiencies in the maritime market. “Improving operational performance through data-driven technologies represents a significant opportunity for vessel owners,” he said.

“Combining our engineering and maintenance experience with Camgian’s capabilities in IoT, software development and sensor processing positions us to realise new levels of operational efficiencies in our industry.”

Camgian chairman and chief executive Gary Butler commented “It is our goal to evolve the maritime industry towards more intelligent and automated maintenance processes that drive significant value to operators in that sector.”
