Boxship Collides with Chinese Cargo Ship in Bohai Sea

On November 21, a boxship reportedly collided with a Chinese Engineering vessel collided in China.

What happened?

The Panama flagged containership ‘MSC Luciana’ reportedly collided with a Chinese Engineering vessel ‘Su Lian Hai’ off the port of Caofeidian in China.

Engineering vessel suffers serious damage:

During the collision, the Engineering vessel sustained severe damages to its starboard side and suffered water ingress. The sixteen crew members onboard the vessel were put at severe risk due to this damage and were subsequently rescued by China’s Rescue and Salvage Department of Transport Ministry.

Hull ruptures:

The impact of the collision, resulted in the vessel sustaining severe damages such as a ruptured hull ranging between 2-3 meters in height.

The savage crew managed to connect a tow line to the stranded vessel and towed the vessel to shallow waters to limit water ingress.

However, the boxship sustained only minor damages and was reportedly on its way to Busan for cargo delivery.
