Ocean going vessels berthing in Hong Kong will be required to use clean fuel from July 1, due to the new Air Pollution Control Regulation.  The new regulation restricts sulphur content not to exceed 0.5%.

It also allows the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas or any other fuel that helps in the reduction of sulphur dioxide emission as effectively as the use of the low sulphur fuel.  The regulation requires the vessels to use the low emission fuel for 1 hour before arriving and 1 hour before departing.

The master and owner of the vessel will be responsible for controlling the emission and also maintaining the record on board failing which they might be fined and also imprisoned.
