Seven Crew Trapped as Ships Collide

On November 28, twelve sailors were reportedly missing after two cargo vessels collided with each other in the Pearl River estuary. Out of the twelve sailors five have been rescued but search is on for remaining seven crew members who are trapped alive inside the vessel.

What happened?

Both the cargo vessels ‘Jiangsu’ and ‘Fujian’ reportedly collided with each other in the Pearl River estuary. During the collision the cargo vessel ‘Fujian’ reportedly sank and the twelve crew members onboard the vessel were reported missing.

The vessel was loaded with 5,000 tonnes of sand when it collided with the Fujian vessel which was loaded with 5,038 tonnes of steel.

5 rescued, 7 trapped:

During the SAR mission, five crew members have been rescued but seven crew members have been trapped alive inside the cabin. Around 300 people, including more than 20 divers, were participating in search and rescue efforts.
