7 Missing After Vessel Collides with Cargo Ship Near Hong Kong

On January 21, seven people were reportedly killed after fishing boat reportedly collided with a cargo vessel near Hong Kong.

What happened?

The cargo vessel reportedly collided with a fishing boat near China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), about 60 miles (96 km) southeast of Hong Kong.

The fishing boat sank into the sea following the impact of the collision and the seven crew members onboard the fishing vessel were reported missing.

Search and Rescue initiated

The Government Flying Service (GFS) of Hong Kong were notified about the incident and a request was made by Hong Kong Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) for assistance in the search and rescue mission.

The rescuers were able to save a person and brought him back to the base for providing further medical assistance whereas seven people were still reported to be missing and was suspended.

An investigation has been launched into the incident and to determine how the collision occurred claiming the life of seven people.
