What happened?

On February 1, the oil tanker was reportedly hijacked by pirates off the Benin coast in Africa with twenty two Indian crew members onboard the oil tanker.

A 25 year old crew member, Mr. Sriunni reportedly called up his family to convey the news of his release and informed that the pirates had not ill-treated or misbehaved with the crew members at any point of time.

Gratitude expressed

His family said, “Our prayers finally yielded results and Sriunni will be back home in 10 days as the ship is sailing towards a European destination to offload the bulk petroleum products”.

They further expressed gratitude to the Indian and the African governments for facilitating the early release of the hijacked ship.
