On February 24, the police were called in to end a terrifying drunken brawl, happening/occurring on a cruise docked at the Sydney’s Darling Harbour.

What happened?

The party was thrown to celebrate Lana Marie Battaglia’s 21st birthday but the party was brought to end quickly when she was transported on a stretcher after being pushed down the stairs during a drunken brawl.

Drunken brawl erupts

The luxury cruise ship had left the wharf and returned shortly to remove a severely intoxicated person who is believed to be the birthday girl after she was injured, after being pushed down the stairs.

According to a family friend, Rose Carambano said “Ms Battaglia was injured after people on the boat after taking a tumble. It was terrible, when I heard last night I thought, she’s never going to forget this birthday. It was just awful”.

Ms Carambano further added, “The fight erupted not long after the boat returned to the dock. As we were getting off we saw a bunch of boys coming in. We noticed they had been drinking and they shouldn’t have been let on in the first place. The night was running smoothly, everyone had a great time and they just ruined it for everybody”.

Many injured

While the boat was docking, its passengers called out to alert passers-by to a woman in the water, who police believed jumped from the wharf. She was rescued and taken to hospital. Drunk guests from a separate party then abandoned ship and swam to shore to join in a fight on the dock at King Street Wharf as the two groups clashed.

A number of people were allegedly assaulted, with one woman taken to hospital with bruises to her arm. Five women and a man have since been charged with various offences, including affray, assaulting police, hindering police work and resisting arrest. The six will all appear at Downing Centre Local Court on March 14.
