A freighter which left the State Port, ran aground this afternoon, near the mouth of the Cape Fear River.

The US Coast Guard says it happened at around 2 p.m.

The 600-foot cargo ship ran aground during low tide near Bald Head Island.

The Coast Guard says there was no pollution or damage and they are waiting until high tide to refloat it, which will be around 10 p.m. tonight.

Tug boats and the Coast Guard are on scene. Officials say a tug will help it get out.
