Large Cargo Ship Runs Aground on French Polynesia Reef

On June 27, a cargo vessel ran aground at the Raroia atoll in the French Polynesia due to engine problems.

What happened?

The cargo vessel ‘Thorco Lineage’ was loaded with 20,000 tonnes of zinc and enroute from United States to Australia, when it ran aground due to engine problems.

Tug dispatched

A French vessel ‘Bougainville’ has been sent to Raroia atoll in French Polynesia to try to dislodge a large cargo ship stuck on a reef after which a tug will try to refloat the ship.

No pollution reported

According to the French High Commission, the weather conditions are favourable. Furthermore, no pollution to the environment was reported due to the grounding incident.
