Swiss Shipper in Touch with Pirates Who Took 12 Crew Hostage

Swiss Shipper established a contact to rescue the hostages taken on September 22, in the Nigerian waters.

What happened?

The bulk carrier carrying wheat was en route from Lagos to Port Harcourt when it was attacked by Nigerian pirates who boarded the vessel using long ladders cut and razor wire on the deck to reach the bridge.

Crew kidnapped

The 7 crew members who were not taken as hostages remained on the ship in Port Harcourt while the captors fled with the 12 crew members who were taken as hostages.

Ongoing negotiations

A Swiss shipping company says it is in contact with pirates who have been holding hostage of 12 crew members of a bulk carrier following a weekend attack off Nigeria’s coast.

Massoel Shipping says it is understood that the MV Glarus crew members are together, well and unharmed. 

A Massoel statement released by the company said, “The first and absolute priority for the hostages’ safe release”.
