On December 4, the White House announced the bill which included the Vessel Incidental Discharge Act of 2018 (VIDA).
Bill passed
The ‘Vessel Incidental Discharge Act of 2018 (VIDA)’ bill (S.140) was signed into law and has modified the regulation of vessel incidental discharge and ballast water.
Changes to be implemented
The changes effected by the new law will be developed and phased in over a two-year period.
Until the change has been fully implemented, the owners have been advised to understand that the current EPA Vessel General Permit (VGP) requirements that will remain in effect until new regulations are developed.
