In a major development, Taiwan’s Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp has launched two new 14,000-TEU containerships at Japan’s Imabari Shipyard on Wednesday, reports Seatrade Maritime’s Asian Correspondent Lee Hong Liang.

About the New Vessels

The two new containerships, YM Warranty, and YM Wellspring are the fourth and fifth of the five 14,000-TEU containerships that Yang Ming chartered from Shoei Kisen Kaisha.

How will it strengthen the fleet?

Since 2015, a total of 20 newly-built 14,000-TEU containerships have been added to Yang Ming’s fleet.

In addition to these large ships, Yang Ming will deploy 10 self-owned 2,800-TEU container vessels and 14 chartered-in 11,000-TEU containerships, which are to be delivered during 2020-22.

Why is it important?

“With the modern, eco-friendly and highly efficient new vessels, Yang Ming will be able to provide customers worldwide with more efficient and cost competitive services,” the company stated.
