The KNM Helge Ingstad frigate and the Sola TS tanker collided north of the Sture terminal in Øygarden last November. The police confirm to the public channel on the suspects for the collision, says an article published in Navva.

What happened?

On November 2018, the police confirm to the public channel that the pilot of Sola TS, guard of the frigate and an employee of Fedje VTS are now suspected after the collision.

The prosecutor of the Western police district, Ole Bjørn Mevatne, informs NRK that these three are suspected: “The pilot on Sola TS – for violation of the navigation rules, which states that the ship is correctly positioned in the waters and gives the correct signal to the receiving vessel. The head of the frigate of duty and responsibility on the bridge during the collision – for violations of the navigation rules, and for negligence caused an injury that could easily lead to loss of human life“.

Vessel condition looks worse

The Minister of Defense about KNM Helge Ingstad: – looks worse than I thought
Press and information officer in the navy, Thomas Gjesdal, tells VG that they are familiar with the suspicion, but do not want to reveal when they were told.

He said, “We take note of that, otherwise we must go to the police to comment. He does not want to comment on how the security officer is having after receiving the status of a suspect. We do not want to comment on how individuals here, which is important to us, to protect the person properly“.

Fingranskins damage to KNM

Neither of us received suspect status after yesterday, says Communications Director at the Coastal Administration Solveig Moe Frøland, referring to the recreation of the accident, which was conducted from night to Tuesday.

She said, “They have and have the status until the police investigate the case“.

The pilot received the suspected status shortly after the accident and confirms the defender at NRK.

Signals and sound log

The radar signals and the VG sound log were given access to shows where the frigate remained at a high speed and constant course to the Sola TS tanker, despite repeated warnings that they would crash outside the Sture terminal in Hjeltefjorden early November last year if they went wrong.

Similarly the dramatic minutes – hear the conversation between the ships: “The frigate lay in the spring stones north of the Sture terminal in Øygarden for almost four months before it was erected and added to Haakonsvern on the quay in early March. The night before Tuesday, the police and the AIBN carried out a reconstruction of the accident“.

Crimean technicians from Kripos have been involved in the investigation, including by investigating data material from onboard electronics. The investigation is expected to continue until the summer. The work of salvaging and collecting the failed frigate costs more than NOK 640 million.

In the preliminary report of the Accident Investigation Board at the end of November, it appeared that Helge Ingstad thought the tanker was a terminal on land.
