Based on an article published in Fleetmon, a bulk carrier listed after its ore started liquifying, the vessel turned back and is currently anchored in New Caledonia.
What happened?
On May 8, bulk carrier ‘New Beginning’ left New Caledonia with a cargo of nickel ore bound for Japan.
However, on May 9 bulk carrier developed a list which started increasing as the ship continued its journey.
Vessel turns back
On May 10, the vessel reported to responsible MRCC, that ore liquefying is the cause of increasing list, the ship turned back and headed for Ngo Bay, New Caledonia.
The vessel arrived at Ngo Bay in the morning of May 12 and is anchored, with reportedly, 10-degrees list.
The concerned authorities are assessing the situation and are yet to decide further course of action.
