  • A quirky passenger asked crew members whether an ice cream machine will be available on the lifeboat if the ship sinks.
  • Increasing numbers of passengers are more concerned about food sustenance than their potential survival.

According to an article published in Express UK, cruise ships see a variety of different passengers gathered together, for voyages of weeks at a time. Yet one common trait among them all has come to light – what is it?

Dirty trick played by passengers

Cruise ships can often accommodate thousands of people at a time, for one particular holiday journey. On board, they are spoiled for choice with a variety of pastimes, restaurants, and hobbies. After which they can venture onto firm land when the cruise ships docks, with a variety of cities and destinations to explore. Yet a former cruise ship doctor has told how passengers play a “dirty” trick when they are disembarking, in order to try to get an advantage.

Pushy behaviour of passengers

Ben MacFarlane penned his observations in his new book, Cruise Ship SOS, and put: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a port visit quite like it. At every harbor the rush to leave defied belief. In popular ports, all semblance of civilized queuing seems to disappear. The most upright off passengers play the ‘dirtiest tricks’ to ensure they get ahead of the crowds.

This pushy behavior of passengers might be down to the fact some passenger have spent days traveling at sea, and crave to step foot on firm land.

It could also be because they have pre-booked excursions and need to meet for a specific time. Meanwhile, the most ridiculous cruise ship passenger concern has come to light.

Bizzare encounters

Former cruise ship employee Joshua Kinser encountered many guests of varying characters and backgrounds during his time working in the ship’s band, and as the ship auctioneer. He told of the most bizarre concern he had encountered on-board.

Detailing the very left-field worry in his book, Chronicles of a Cruise Ship Member, he wrote crew needed to have “a high tolerance for seasickness and the stupid questions that passengers ask.”

He cited the strangest question he had ever been posted during a cruise ship route, and put how one passenger quizzed: “If the ship sinks, will there be an ice cream machine on the lifeboat?

Social evil making its presence felt

It appears the passenger in question was more concerned about food sustenance than their potential survival. Joshua did not detail how he responded, though his remark made it clear he did not take the worry seriously.

Meanwhile, an omnipresent “evil” said to exist on all cruise ships recently came to light.

Former senior cruise ship officer Jay Herring, who worked onboard Carnival Cruise Lines for 10 years, said he noted a clear “social evil” permeating through.
