Greece Bags the Maximum Vessel Orders in 2019

  • Greek shipowners bagged maximum orders across the entire range of tankers and liquefied natural gas carriers. 
  • The total number of dry-bulk carrier newbuild orders was down to 73% in the first half of 2019, The tanker orders reduced to 47% from H1 2018.
  • The Greeks have been ordering any tanker size ranging from VLCCs down to MR2s with 90 percent of the orders placed at South Korean yards.
  • Maran Gas Maritime has ordered a total of five vessels, all on separate occasions, referring to the gas arm of the Angelicoussis Group.

In Spite of the global orders for new oceangoing vessels dropped to record lows after the year’s second quarter, Greek shipowners bagged maximum orders across the entire range of tankers and liquefied natural gas carriers, reports ekathimerini in their e-news.

Major decline in orders

The report signed by VesselsValue’s head cargo analyst Olivia Watkins revealed a major decline in orders across the board. 

The total number of dry-bulk carrier new build orders was down to 73% in the first half of 2019 compared to the same period in 2018. 

The tanker orders reduced to 47% from H1 2018.

Greece and Singapore lead in Vessel orders

The report noted that countries leading in vessel orders are Greece and Singapore. The Greeks have been ordering any tanker size ranging from VLCCs down to MR2s with 90 percent of the orders placed at South Korean yards.

LNG newbuild orders dropped 39% in the first half of 2019. 

Maran Gas Maritime

The VesselsValue report said that since the beginning of the year, Maran Gas Maritime has ordered a total of five vessels, all on separate occasions, referring to the gas arm of the Angelicoussis Group.
