Cruise ships feature a variety of different items, brought on board by both passengers and crew. An article in Express reveals that one particular bottle which some employees will not be seen without.

Days and weeks on Sea

Cruise ship passengers and crew are often at sea for days and weeks on end on one particular holiday route.

This is particularly the case for ship employees, who regularly stick with the vessel and the sea team of on-board employees for a variety of different, back to back, excursions.

The big reveal

This means they have to pack savvy before they come on board. The one item cruise ship crew stationed in any department will not be spotted without has now come to light.

Former cruise ship employee James Kinser has shed light on the bizarre must-have, which he claims makes life on board that bit happier.

Chronicles of a Cruise Ship Worker

He detailed the product in his new book, Chronicles of a Cruise Ship Worker, and told of a conversation over dinner with a fellow employee.

He said “I was left thinking ‘who brings their own hot sauce on a cruise ship?

Well, most crew members it turns out“.

Hot sauce is about as valuable to a crew member as a high tolerance for seasickness and the stupid questions that passengers ask.

Vital uses of hot sauce in the crew mess

In fact, hot sauce has many vital uses that should never be underappreciated or overlooked. First and foremost, it is useful in completely masking the utterly bland and entirely unpalatable taste of nearly all food found in the crew mess.

Just douse it with a liberal serving of your favorite Africa-hot ghost pepper sauce, and you won’t taste anything but fire and brimstone – which, as it turns out, is much better tasting than anything served in the crew mess.”

Social evil on board

Meanwhile, in a completely separate aspect of cruise ship life, an “evil” said to be on board many vessels has been exposed.

Former senior cruise ship officer Jay Herring, who worked on board Carnival Cruise Lines for 10 years, said he noted a clear “social evil” permeating through.

The Truth About Cruise Ships

In his new book, The Truth About Cruise Ships, he told how it left a sour taste among some, with passengers also potentially alerted.

He wrote “For me, there was social evil on board the ship. I’m speaking, of course, about rampant infidelity“.

He also said “On land, I am probably surrounded by more unfaithful people than I realise. But there was no hiding it in the ship’s small town atmosphere.”
