Nakilat- Keppel Offshore & Marine Limited (N-KOM) is a joint-venture enterprise established in the year 2007.  The players of this enterprise are Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat) renowned for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) transportation and Keppel Offshore & Marine (KOM), leader in ship repairs, conversions, and construction of offshore drilling rigs.  It is located at Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma shipyard making it Qatar’s premier shipyard by offering an advantage of its strategic location.

The shipyard offers a comprehensive range of solutions like dry-docking repairs, membrane tank servicing along with necessary repair, fabrication and maintenance services.  Its services are offered to a wide range of vessels and structures for the offshore and onshore industries and build a flexibility to cope with the ever-changing demand of today’s maritime industry.

The shipyard has introduced the de-mucking and de-slopping facilities and has pooled the resources with local customs for ‘ship spares in transit’ and positioning itself as a platform for the expanded range of on-site service providers.  All these initiatives have helped them to attract several major clients over the past years.  Some prominent players of this field who have availed or availing the services of N-KOM are as follows:

  • Repaired the first vessel from Cyprus, Donnelly Tanker’s LR1 ‘Hafnia Arctic’.
  • Handled VLCC-size floating dock, which is supposed to be the world’s largest, with a lifting capacity of 120,000 tonnes and measuring 405 m long by 66 m wide.  The 74,910 dwt product tanker has arrived N-KOM for emergency repairs to its controllable pitch propeller (CPP) shaft.
  • Handled the VLCC Olympic Liberty for afloat repairs.  This vessel is managed by Springfield Shipping where modifications were made to the vessel’s bow mooring choke.  Other routine maintenance work including the overhauling of the main engine, turbo-chargers and pressure-vacuum valves and testing of pressure tests carried out for its piping systems.
  • Sun Enterprises’ LR1 ‘Amazon Brilliance’ also availed the facility of routine drydocking.  The services included renewal of the vessel’s under deck stiffening, a tail shaft survey, as well as hull blasting and painting.
