On Tuesday, 330 Syrians adrift in the Aegean Sea were rescued by the Turkish Coastguard. Their aim to reach Greece seemed to have failed.
The migrants including newborns, children and pregnant women were reported to have travelled in eight small boats.
There has been a dramatic increase in the migrants seeking entry into the Crisis-hit Greece. The reports of the United Nations Refugee Agency states that this year the number of refugees by sea are 1,24,000.
One Turkish Coastguard in seaside resort town of Cesme revealed that 700 people were rescued last week. He added, “There has been a calamitous increase and we do not have the resources to meet their needs”.
One among the refugees, Abdul, 23, from Damascus, revealed, “We are told Europe will welcome us, but the door is closed in our face. We will try again every day to reach Greece”.
The refugees are not only from war-torn Syria but also from Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran. They fill the inflatable boats run by Turkish smugglers.
