German Container Ship Runs Into Steering Trouble in Kiel Canal

According to a Maritime Bulletin report, a container ship suffered engine failure in the Kiel Canal.

What happened?

The container ship Ceres suffered engine failure while transiting Kiel Canal in the afternoon Feb 2, and ran into an embankment. It was refloated in about an hour and a half by a tug, resumed transit, seemingly under own power, but escorted and assisted by a tug.

Steering problem

According to track details, the ship was experiencing a steering problem. As of now the vessel is approaching Kiel and was en route from Hamburg to Kaliningrad Russia, Baltic sea.
