  • Hai Phong City and Port authorities made decisions which will negatively impact international shipping.
  • Quarantine zone berths designated in port, to handle ships while they’re not yet fully cleared and crew to remain on board.
  • The list of potentially dangerous virus ships includes all the ships which arrive not only from China, but also, from South Korea and Japan.
  • Vietnamese crew members will be allowed to disembark, subject to 14-days quarantine.

According to a Maritime Bulletin report, Hai Phong City and Port authorities made important decisions on Feb 25, which will negatively impact international shipping.

What is the decision?

Quarantine zone berths

According to the decision, there are designated quarantine zone berths in port, to handle ships while they’re not yet fully cleared.

It means, the crew will not be able to go ashore, and will have to remain on board.

List of potentially dangerous virus ships

The other major decision is the inclusion of a few more countries to the list of potentially dangerous virus ships.

The list includes all the ships which arrive from South Korea and Japan apart from China.

Crew disembark

The decision also allows only Vietnamese crew members to disembark, subject to 14-days quarantine. Seamen of all other nationalities are to remain on board, unconditionally.

It is a headache!

It’s quite a headache and problem not only for crews, but for all other involved parties, from agents to crewing and ship management.

There’s a high probability of other Vietnamese provinces, and what’s worse, other countries in the region, to take up Hai Phong lead and implement the same measures.
